Many funders and philanthropic organizations rely on investments for the day-to-day financial stability and longevity of their group. Resilient investment portfolios ensure funders and organizations have the short term flexibility and the long term stability to further their mission and expand their impact. The goal of this session is for participants to walk away with a deeper understanding of the investing environment and a path forward for their own portfolio. The session will begin with an economic update to identify the major themes and challenges of the 2022 market environment. The economic update will likely include the inflationary environment, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the post-Covid recovery, the status of different sectors in the US economy, domestic versus foreign investments, and possible investment themes for 2023. Salem and the panel will then turn to asset classes to discuss the following questions. What opportunities and risks are present in each asset class in the current environment? In what ways have portfolios adapted? In what ways have portfolios failed to adapt? What are best practices for portfolio construction? The session will conclude with panelists and attendees sharing lessons learned and how their organizations are adapting to current investment challenges.
