Teach For America−New Mexico announced today that it received a $250,000 charitable donation from the Hunt Family Foundation of El Paso, Texas. Funds will be used to recruit, train, and develop teachers to work in high-need schools in southern New Mexico and surrounding communities and support efforts to expand educational opportunities in the Borderlands. Teach For America recruits top college graduates and professionals to make an initial two-year commitment to teach in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong advocates for educational equity. Some 78 Teach For America corps members and nearly 180 alumni—including 35 teachers and 19 school or district leaders—work in New Mexico. Corps members are teaching in more than 52 schools in eight districts statewide.
