WHAT: Using Data to Inform Philanthropy and Advance Better Community Outcomes for All
Qualitative and quantitative data can be used to inform new collaborative efforts in areas such as education, healthcare and housing. Understanding Houston is a collaborative, regional indicators initiative that launched in 2019 to address these and other critical areas in Houston's three most populous counties. This cross-sector initiative, led by the Greater Houston Community Foundation, analyzes data so that residents and leaders can better understand key issues and trends to drive informed decision-making and policy. The panel will discuss how data can inform philanthropy and empower residents to participate in civic and systems processes for greater community impact.
Speakers:
- Russell Ramsey, Director of Learning and Evaluation, Houston Endowment
- Dr. Ruth Lopez Turley, Director, Rice University's Kinder Institute for Urban Research
- Nadia Valliani, Director of Community Philanthropy, Greater Houston Community Foundation
Immediately following the program, PSW will be conducting a funder focus group on civic engagement. This facilitated conversation will explore how funders are showing up in this space within the U.S. Southwest region. Funders who are currently supporting civic engagement or interested in the topic are invited to participate. Please email Hillary Evans, hillary@philanthropysouthwest.org, if you are interested in attending this focus group or have questions.
