Latinx Mental Health Summit Recap
On May 25, Philanthropy Southwest hosted its inaugural Latinx Mental Health Summit at Bonton Farms, an urban farm in Dallas, TX. During the Summit, the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute (Meadows Institute) presented preliminary findings including Latinx population demographics in Texas and nationally along with specific data on the pandemic’s impact on Latinx and Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) mental health. Attendees then participated in small focus group discussions on trust-based philanthropy and the centrality of lived experience. This study’s methodology has included a funder-focused learning collaborative, convened by PSW, and a case study of promising practices addressing mental health challenges facing Latinx communities in North Texas. PSW wishes to thank Christina Hanger, Trustee, W.K. Kellogg Foundation for their generous support of the project and Devinne Kelly of FEG for sponsoring this inaugural summit. Final findings and recommendations will be presented at PSW’s 73rd Annual Conference this October in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
