Community Foundation Brightens Spring with Flowers, Fitness and Fun 

Oklahoma City Community Foundation Rolls Out Two Unique Initiatives

After spending a year at home to stay safe during the pandemic, PSW member Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF) decided to create two initiatives to help make this spring both healthy and hopeful for the residents of central Oklahoma. 

The first initiative called KeepMovingOKC.org, is an online portal offering free or low-cost fitness activities to those who want to keep moving and stay healthy in Oklahoma City. “Wellness has been a big part of our mission for many years, and this unique initiative is the most comprehensive fitness advocacy effort we have seen anywhere,” said Nancy Anthony, president of OCCF.

OCCF partners with clubs, organizations, and advocates throughout Oklahoma City’s wellness community to create regularly updated calendars full of activities, ranging from group hikes and bike rides to fishing derbies and belly dancing classes.

“KeepMovingOKC is a quality initiative that makes it easy for us to try some new things, improve our health, get together with others and lift our spirits,” said Marsha Funk, executive director of Greater Oklahoma City Parks & Trails Foundation. “Oklahoma City has much to offer, and we are excited to see this program boost our community's focus on events and connect people with wonderful ways to stay active in our parks and trails.”

The second initiative is called Rebloom Oklahoma, a major bulb planting project involving parks, medians, and hundreds of other public spaces across Oklahoma County. “As Oklahoma City and neighboring communities emerge from the coronavirus doldrums of 2020, they will be greeted this spring by tens of thousands of daffodils,” said OCCF President Nancy Anthony. “This has been a tough year for everyone, but this bulb-planting program is a beautiful way to start 2021 on an optimistic note.”

OCCF has partnered with dozens of scout troops, neighborhood associations, civic organizations, and other community groups to plant 65,000 daffodil bulbs in more than 400 locations in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Midwest City, Bethany, and other communities in Oklahoma County.
