We are excited to announce Philanthropy Southwest’s (PSW) first-ever Academic Research Cohort. This formal advisory group of subject-matter experts will assist Philanthropy Southwest and its members in developing research and curating content to advance philanthropic practices in the Southwest region of the U.S. Through this cohort, PSW will engage experts across a variety of disciplines to support and advise on the broader impact of philanthropy in the region. This group of experts includes both academic institutions and subject matter experts in the areas of the economy; banking; tax policy; financial sustainability of nonprofits; public administration; board governance and compliance; nonprofit law & advocacy; research & evaluation; human centered design; and diversity, equity & inclusion.

Each member of the Academic and Research Cohort participates in advisory role from faculty participation in PSW curated professional learning opportunities to providing feedback on future research and other initiatives to support the grantmaking community in the Southwest. Specifically, they will advise on three new initiatives set to launch this year including: an update on the PSW Giving Study, a Latinx Mental Health funder-focused learning collaborative, and a regional economic impact study research initiative.
