Ratcheting Up Rural Response, Recovery and Resilience: Five Good Ideas for Philanthropy Right Now

An Action/Learning Exchange
Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Hour 1: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET
Rural practitioners and funders will briefly detail each of the Five Good Ideas.

Hour 2: 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. ET Optional
Join a breakout to explore the Idea that most interests you.

Across the country, rural communities and regions grappling with the immediate consequences of COVID-19 are already thinking about long-term ramifications. Many rural hub organizations – community action agencies, community development financial institutions, community foundations, tribal and local governments, schools and colleges, social enterprises, and a wide range of nonprofits – are taking swift action, working creatively and collaboratively to provide immediate relief. But they could use help – both to respond and to improve prospects for recovery. Since they are the experts in what they need, we asked seasoned rural action leaders what they think could help the most – especially ideas that might not be front and center on funders’ radar screens.

Join United Philanthropy Forum in partnership with the Aspen Institute on June 2nd at 2:00 p.m. ET to explore the Five Good Ideas they decided to highlight. We invite both funders – national, regional, state and local – and rural practitioners to participate, share experience, and fortify this exchange with your experience, good design ideas, additional challenges, and other promising approaches.

In Hour 1: For each idea, we’ll explain why it is especially important for rural recovery, and feature on-the-ground experience of funders and/or practitioners engaged in implementing the Idea.

In Hour 2 (optional): Join a breakout room for open conversation about one of the five ideas with fellow rural practitioners and funders. After you register, we’ll send links to all five breakout rooms so you can choose to attend the room that best fits your interests.
