The Texas Instruments (TI) Foundation announced today that Andy Smith will become executive director of the Texas Instruments Foundation, effective April 15th, building on Ann Pomykal’s work in that role for more than a decade. Ann will continue with the TI Foundation as major education grants director.
“Ann’s taking on a new role with the TI Foundation that focuses on education so we can best partner to make a real difference in our communities,” said Lewis McMahan, chairman of the TI Foundation board of directors. “She’s been an icon for TI philanthropy and leader not only in the North Texas community but also around the United States. We thank Ann for her leadership and welcome Andy to lead the TI Foundation in the future.” Smith, who has served TI as director of corporate philanthropy for the past six years, will begin serving as the foundation’s executive director and the point of contact for all TI and TI Foundation arts and community grants.
Smith joined TI in 1997, where his roles have included media relations and marketing communications. Prior to joining TI, he worked in Austin as public relations/development director for several nonprofit organizations. He also serves as a board member and leader with several community, arts and education non-profits in North Texas.
Pomykal worked in TI philanthropy for more than 16 years before retiring from the company in 2003 and becoming the executive director of the TI Foundation. In her new role, she will continue her work with many education grants such as AP Strategies, Educate Texas Lancaster ISD initiative, Teach for America, UTeach and the Innovation in STEM Teaching Awards.
Aleta Stampley, TI’s K-12 education director, will also work with TI Foundation education grants in addition to other TI programs. TI’s education grants are primarily focused on training teachers and helping more students graduate from high school proficient in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
“I look forward to learning from Ann’s wealth of knowledge and experience as we make this transition and build our philanthropic initiatives,” Andy Smith said. “From its beginning, the TI Foundation has been dedicated to making our headquarters’ community a great place to live and work through its investments in education, arts and community needs.”
