Colorado's dynamic immigrant population enriches the state
• Nearly 1 in 10 Coloradans is an immigrant.
• One third of "new Coloradans" are naturalized U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote.
• Immigrants are vital to the state's economy, accounting for one in nine of Colorado's workers and 10 percent of the Denver area's economic output.
Administrative relief presents an opportunity to advance Colorado's shared prosperity. Among those who applied for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), an earlier administrative relief program, 60 percent obtained a new job and 45 percent increased their earnings.
Opportunity is knocking again. An expanded administrative relief program, announced last November, will give Colorado the chance to improve outcomes for newcomers and the state. More than half of the 164,000 unauthorized immigrants in Colorado stand to benefit, making it the state with the 12th largest beneficiary population in the nation.
