Session Description:
Session Description:
Learning if and how we are making a difference in our grantmaking is key to designing our funding strategies and allocating our resources. While evaluation can involve significant resource and time beyond the reach of many funders, there are tools and techniques for small and medium-sized foundation staff that can answer the question -- are we making a difference? This workshop will use real-life examples of how to use stories, numbers and relationships with your grantees to learn more about the impact you and they are having.
Participants will:
- Understand what evaluation is and is not, how evaluation can strengthen foundation grantmaking, and how it can improve grantee performance
- Learn practical evaluation tools and techniques useful for small and medium-sized foundations
- Learn how to fine-tune their proposal review, grantmaking and reporting processes to incorporate learning and evaluation, and how to better engage their grant recipients in learning.
Please note: While this workshop is specifically designed for small-medium staffed foundations, larger-staffed foundations may also find these tools and techniques of value.
